Gold Bond Fire-Shield C Gypsum Board
Gold Bond® BRAND Fire-Shield® C Gypsum Board was developed to work in combination with other products in an assembly to retard heat transfer through the assembly. Generically, these fire resistant boards that are used to delay heat transfer to structural members are designated as "Type X" products. Fire Shield C gypsum board is a specially formulated gypsum board that meets all the requirements of Type X boards, with additional properties to further enhance the fire resistive characteristics of the product for use in proprietary systems.
The gypsum core of Fire-Shield C Gypsum Board works as a natural "sprinkler system." Gypsum naturally contains about 21 percent water. When the board is heated, the water in the core begins to evaporate and is released as steam, retarding heat transfer. Fire-Shield C gypsum board remains noncombustible. However, as shrinkage occurs because of the loss of water volume, cracks occur which permit passage of fire and heat. To lessen this process, Fire-Shield C gypsum board is formulated by adding noncombustible fibers to the gypsum to help maintain the integrity of the core as water volume is lost while providing greater resistance to heat transfer.
Applications
- 1/2" Fire-Shield C - For single- or multi-layer construction for fire tested assemblies. Also used as a roofing substrate.
- 5/8" Fire-Shield - For single- or multi-layer drywall construction. The greater thickness provides increased resistance to fire and reduced sound transmission.
- 5/8" Fire-Shield C - For single- or multi-layer drywall construction. The specially formulated Type X core achieves superior performance when used in specirfic assemblies.
